Faye Dunaway reflects on 2017 Oscars Best Picture flub

Faye Dunaway reflects on 2017 Oscars Best Picture flub

For those who don't remember last year's end-of-show debacle (and how did you miss it?), the wrong envelope for Best Picture was handed to Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. When the mix-up was discovered, a La La Land producer welcomed the Moonlight crew to the stage to accept the award. "I wasn't trying to be amusing", Beatty clarified on stage at the time, after host Jimmy Kimmel had joked "Warren, what did you do?"

Beatty announced that "The Shape of Water" won, and the joke continued when director Guillermo Del Toro grabbed the envelope from the actor and held it up as proof, drawing laughs from the crowd. And they said, it's okay.

"Sorry guys, we're out of Oscars", he said.

Director Barry Jenkins told The Hollywood Reporter recently that he was "distraught" at the Oscars after party when he should have been on Cloud Nine.

ET spoke with the legendary actress at the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday night, where she talked about getting to announce Best Picture again with Warren Beatty, after the two were given the wrong envelope previous year - leading to an epic flub. They had been given the Best Actress envelope by mistake and when Dunaway saw the words "La La Land" under the name Emma Stone she blurted them out. "Moonlight has won Best Picture".

PwC aka PriceWaterhouseCoopers were the team behind the envelope fiasco and apparently accountant, Brian Cullinan was tweeting while on envelope duty and that's how the mix-up happened. When presenting the award for Best Picture in 2017, they announced that the winner was La La Land, when the actual victor was Moonlight.

Despite the infamous incident The Academy has chose to retain accounting firm PwC despite the now infamous Best Picture flub.
