Dapchi kidnap: Group accuses Amnesty Int'l of undermining Nigeria's sovereignty

Dapchi kidnap: Group accuses Amnesty Int'l of undermining Nigeria's sovereignty

President Muhammadu Buhari has called the Dapchi abduction a "national disaster" and vowed to use negotiation rather than force to secure their release.

Despite being repeatedly told that Boko Haram fighters were heading to Dapchi, it appears that the police and military did nothing to avert the abduction.

The military had reportedly done nothing.

Dan-Ali was also confident that the girls would return in the shortest time owing to the intelligence at the government's disposal, though he can not say the exact time when it would be.

The coalition of civil society groups against terrorism in Nigeria has accused global rights organization, amnesty worldwide of what it described as its judgmental reports on the security situation in the troubled North eastern part of the country.

The group further said the latest report by AI accusing Nigerian Security Forces of ignoring warnings about an impending invasion of Dapchi, is apparently fabricated, lacks substance and should not be taken serious by Nigerians and anyone at all.

Agim added that "the Nigerian public and the global community should know that the armed forces of Nigeria is a professional military and has attained the highest form of professionalism in line with worldwide best practices".

"Regrettably, no lessons appear to have been learned from the bad events at Chibok four years ago", said Osai Ojigho, Amnesty International's Nigeria director.

Campaigners from Bring Back Our Girls movement say Boko Haram used similar tactics in the 2014 Chibok kidnappings for the Dapchi school raid.

Nigerian Army also took a swipe at Amnesty International stating that it is not proper for the organisation to denigrate the reputation of Nigeria's security forces.

He assured that the Federal Government will not rest until all the Chibok and Dapchi school girls in the Boko Haram custody are released and reunited with their families.

A competent senior police officer, who confirmed this to PRNigeria, said the personnels will be deployed in more than 300 schools in Yobe, Adamawa and Borno to enhanced enhance security to students and teachers in schools. The answer is simple, AI is not ready to contribute towards finding a solution to our problems, if anything, they are ready to complicate the problems.

The country's defence spokesman, Brigadier General John Agim, accused Amnesty of an "orchestrated campaign of calumny" to undermine the military's achievements against Boko Haram. Unfounded and inaccurate reports such as this by AI is completely unacceptable, and only exit in the figment of AI imaginations and should be discountenanced by well meaning Nigerians and Foreign friendly Nations.

"For avoidance of doubt, the Armed Forces of Nigeria are more than ever, poised to bring the activities of Boko Haram terrorists to a complete end and no amount of discouraging fabrications by the AI will deter the military from achieving its constitutionally assigned responsibilities".
