Action will be taken against armed rallies: Mamata Banerjee

Action will be taken against armed rallies: Mamata Banerjee

Asked whether she would be meeting Pawar, Banerjee said, "We (TMC) have 46 MPs (including 12 Rajya Sabha members) there".

The Trinamool leader is expected to visit Parliament House and meet "her old colleagues, party MPs and leaders of other political parties", a senior Trinamool leader had said on Monday.

While the West Bengal Chief Minister has even reached out to BJP dissidents Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie and Shatrughan Sinha - she will meet the trio on Wednesday - there is no meeting scheduled with Rahul Gandhi.

Hitting out at the BJP over the unrest in the state, Banerjee said, "There is only party in the state which is creating such problem". Elaborating further on Karnataka polls, Banerjee said she wants the Congress to make alliance with JD (S)-led by former prime minister HD Deve Gowda.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Mamata said, "Yes, Sonia Ji is unwell right now and recovering".

Banerjee was belligerent against the BJP which, she said, ran a "dictatorial, anti-people and communal government".

Banerjee later said that she "respects" Shiv Sena.

Reports say Mamata also met DMK leader K Kanimozhi and K Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Banerjee also met Shiv Sena parliamentarian Sanjay Raut, later on Tuesday. In comparison, Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party and Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party have been more willing to work together.

One person was killed and five police personnel were injured yesterday during a clash between two groups in Purulia as sword-wielding BJP supporters defied the state government ban on armed rallies on this occasion.

"The political party which is strong in a particular state should be allowed to work. We are strongly with her and (SP leader) Akhilesh Yadav in this mission for the nation", she had tweeted. "Tomorrow there will be a meeting in the central hall, then we will talk", Mamata had said on arrival.

On 24 March, when Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu slammed as "a bid to spread lies" BJP president Amit Shah's letter questioning the use of funds released by the Centre, Mamata was again quick to respond.

Banerjee's meetings on Tuesday came at a time opposition parties as well as former BJP ally Telugu Desam party (TDP) have come together to move a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.

Following her meeting with NCP and RJD leaders, Mamata said the "Lok Sabha elections of 2019 will certainly be interesting".
