What Penn State men's basketball needs to do against MI and beyond

Edwards went down during practice Saturday with a sprained ankle, which left him sidelined for Sunday's game against Penn State.

The losses piled have up for Purdue - three in a row on the Boilers' record.

Carsen Edwards says the team missed Vincent's leadership on the floor, but they still felt it from the sideline. This victory was made possible thanks to Carsen Edwards, who led all scorers with 27 points, but unlike the last three games, he had help. Vincent Edwoards leads in rebounds with 7.8 while Mathias tops in assists with 4.4 per game.

Purdue's offense struggled as Penn State's defense put on a show, all while Mike Watkins sat out due to early foul trouble.

Dakota Mathias scored 18 points and was a pleasant surprise as it took some of the workload off of Carsen. RHP Nick Distasio (Oley, Pa.) battled back to strike out the next batter and then second baseman Conlin Hughes (Holly Springs, N.C.) made a diving stop to keep a batted ball in the infield, making the toss to first to end the inning.

Sucese provided the equalizer for Penn State 3:39 later only for the KHL line to propel the Spartans back into the lead within minutes. But in crunch time, Eastern made it very hard for Carr to create his shot and get clear looks from the field.

Purdue had more second-chance points with 13, compared to Penn State's 11. Haas returned in the second half, but finished with just 12 points. - Junior Andrew Sturtz (Buffalo, N.Y.) becomes just the second Nittany Lion in program history to reach the 100-point milestone as he collects a goal and an assist to lead No. 16 Penn State past Michigan State, 3-2, in Big Ten Conference action this evening from Munn Ice Arena to close out the regular season series. Purdue's C. Edwards hit two with two seconds left in the game for the final 76-73 outcome.

Eventually, the Boilers seized control of the game midway through the period.

Purdue enters the final week of the regular season as a top-10 team.

Ultimately, Penn State's NCAA Tournament hopes took another massive hit as the blue and white fell 4-2 at Michigan State.

It's the rebounding where Purdue could most obviously miss Edwards against the Nittany Lions.

Two three-pointers by Shep Garner knotted the game at 56-all with 7:01 to play in the half. Even with Purdue defenders in his face, he was flushing threes. The win is Penn State's first in a season opener since 2014, snapping a three-game skid.

Over the last 18 months, the Buckeyes hold the slightest of edges: 23 victories, 21 losses and 2 ties.

Although Purdue came out with great energy, they were still unable to out-rebound their opponent for a tenth straight game. Most Penn State teams began Big Ten play in 1992, while football started playing a conference slate in 1993. It happened against Rutgers, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and it happened again tonight.

There was a scary moment late in the half when Haas got pulled down hard going for a rebound and was very slow to get up.
