USA adds Hamas leader to list of global terrorists

USA adds Hamas leader to list of global terrorists

The statement published by the US State Department said that sanctions will be imposed on Haniyeh and the Gaza-based terrorist organization, freezing any US-based assets and preventing US citizens from conducting business with the newly designated terrorists.

Washington on Wednesday listed Haneya on the list of terrorism, in two decisions Made by the State of Department and the State of Treasury.

Hamas has fought three wars with Israel since 2008 and is held responsible by the USA for the killing of 17 Americans in attacks.

Other Hamas officials, including the group's Gaza leader, are also on the list.

A statement from the group said the decision would "not dissuade us from continuing to hold fast to the option of resisting and expelling the [Israeli] occupation".

The U.S. State Department on Wednesday added Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh into its terrorist list.

The other two groups-Liwa al-Thawra (Flag of the Revolution) and Harakat Sawa'd Misr (Arms of Egypt Movement, HASM)-are Egyptian, and some of the leadership in both groups was previously associated with the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood.

During the Israel-Hamas war, he went to Turkey for treatment to his leg, which he lost, Fox News reported. Harakat al-Sabireen also previously established a rocket factory in Gaza that was destroyed in the summer of 2014, and the group had plans to carry out attacks against Israel in February 2016.

He added that Tehran gives Palestinian militant groups "potentially up to $100 million annually".

Hamas officials denounced the U.S. decision, affirming that it "will not prevent our people and its leaders from continuing their legitimate struggle".

US President Donald Trump declared in December 2017 that his administration would begin a years-long process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to Quds.

Originally founded to assist Palestinian refugees from the 1948 war that established the state of Israel, UNRWA continues to operate 70 years later, providing humanitarian assistance and social services to residents of almost 60 refugee camps in the areas neighboring Israel.

"This Zionist policy supported by the United States can not be confronted unless we ignite a new intifada", Haniya said.
