Two of the ISIS executioner 'Beatles' captured in Syria

Two of the ISIS executioner 'Beatles' captured in Syria

Brits Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh have been detained by US-backed Kurdish militia fighters on the Iraq-Syria border.

Kotey and Elsheikh were members of an ISIS cell called "Beatles" along with Mohammed Emwazi (aka Jihadi John) and Aine Davis.

The Londoners were the last members of a group of four Britons who are believed to have tortured and beheaded dozens of people.

US officials did not provide any other details of the capture, but said the USA government works closely with its coalition partners on the disposition of detainees held by the SDF.

He said the militants could be intentionally providing incorrect information or were not up to date on the latest information, so a thorough analysis was underway. Haines said she wanted to "look them in the eye and let them know I am who I am and they have certainly destroyed a big part of my life".

The Britons had always been identified by British and American intelligence as playing an integral role in the IS team feared for its brutality against foreign captives held in the self-declared caliphate's capital of Raqqa.

The interviewee lamented the fact that "we want to protect the human rights of terrorists above the human rights of their victims".

British Defence secretary Gavin Williamson told the Times in London: "These are people who have done absolutely vile and despicable crimes".

"It is good that they have been hunted down and caught".

U.S. officials told the paper they had been detained by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces.

USA officials were informed in mid-January that the militia might have captured the men, the newspaper reported, adding that the officials later confirmed their identities using fingerprints and other biometric measurements.

Former child refugee Elsheikh was a mechanic from White City in west London, and Kotey was from Paddington.

In January 2017, USA authorities named Kotey as a member of the cell and said they had imposed sanctions on him.

The first picture has emerged of a captured British IS fighter - part of a group nicknamed The Beatles - in detention. "Kotey has also acted as an ISIL recruiter and is responsible for recruiting several United Kingdom nationals to join the terrorist organization", the Department said on its website about the 34-year-old British national.

The Kotey family have said they had "seen news about Alexe today", but said they would not be commenting further and asked that they are not contacted by the media.

Elsheikh travelled to Syria in 2012, according to the state department, who noted the militant had "earned a reputation for waterboarding, mock executions, and crucifixions while serving as an Isis jailer".

A U.S. -British missile strike believed to have killed Emwazi, a British citizen of Arab origin, was months in preparation but came together at lightning speed in 2015 in the Syrian town of Raqqa, according to U.S. officials.
