Gen Bajwa attends funeral prayers of martyred army personnel in Peshawar

The suicide bomber struck in the Kabal area of theSwat district, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), a media wing of Pakistan army said in a statement.

"The soldiers were playing volleyball in the evening outside the military base. when a suicide bomber managed to blow himself up", an official told Reuters.

Local reports said that the death toll may further increase as several were in critical condition among the injured. The injured were later shifted by rescue officials to a hospital in Saidu Sharif area of Swat, according to government sources.

The Taliban radical movement reportedly claimed the responsibility for the attack. A large contingent of security personnel had secured the area after the attack and started an initial investigation into the blast. The Pakistani military wrested the region from the Taliban in 2009 and has maintained a heavy presence.

Although peace had returned to Swat after a military operation in the valley in 2009, security has been a primary concern in the region.

This is the second attack in a month and it is suspected that TTP will carry out more of such attacks.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi strongly condemned the attack and expressed his grief over the losses of security personnel.

Prime Minister Abbasi said the war against terrorism will continue till the elimination of the last terrorist from Pakistan.
