Europe 'Beast From the East' Weather to Bring Cold, Snow

Saturday and Sunday will be even colder still, with lows of -2 and -3 on Saturday and Sunday night respectively, with a widespread sharp to severe frost.

Met Éireann have forecast a cold and frosty night on Friday, with temperatures reaching as low as -1C. More snow is expected throughout the day, especially on higher ground.

Officials have issued several snow warnings, saying that power outages and mobile phone service could be impacted, The Telegraph reported.

"There is a very big, very cold pool of air that circulates around the North Pole - sudden stratospheric warming, as it says on the tin, is when the stratosphere suddenly warms", he said.

In this early stage the Met Office are still not clear whether what weather heading towards the United Kingdom will bring, but say there could potentially be up to 10cm of snow.

Persistent snow showers are expected from late Monday and throughout Tuesday.

It will be "exceptionally cold."




"From late Monday afternoon, snow showers may become aligned into bands pushing into parts of southeast England".

Sunday will be another dry and sunny day, with temperatures hitting 4C to 7C.

For the rest of the week, temperatures will remain cold but will rise above freezing for the rest of the week.

"Parts of Ireland will also see a widespread and severe ground frost". Minimum Temperature -3 °C.

Wednesday will see some more snow showers.

Today, Friday, is expected to be mostly dry with a mix of cloud and sunny spells; the best of the sunshine is likely in the north. No further snow is indicated for Thursday, March 1, but both days will be very, very cold with highs of just 1C during the day and -6C overnight. This could fall as snow or sleet.
