BBL 2017/18 Final: Strikers crowned BBL champions behind Weatherald's 115

BBL 2017/18 Final: Strikers crowned BBL champions behind Weatherald's 115

It's the BBL7 Grand Final as the Strikers and Hurricanes lock horns at a sold-out Adelaide Oval for the right to be crowned Champions.

We have two left-handed opening batsmen here, with very contrasting styles, in D'Arcy Short and Alex Carey, both given the green light to return from Australian T20 duty after they took on New Zealand last night in Sydney.

The 23-year-old was averaging 24.36 heading into Sunday's final with Hobart Hurricanes, a figure boosted by fifties against Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades in the previous two matches.

Head was released from Australia's Twenty20 squad by CA on Thursday, allowing him to play a leading role in his side's one-run win over the Renegades.

Adelaide Strikers defeated Melbourne Renegades by one run on Friday to reach the final of Big Bash League (BBL) 2017-18.

"I don't know what the policy is or if there is one".

"I don't think anyone in the (BBL) comp has an issue with it", he said. He also stressed that Australian cricket needed to maintain a hierarchy where national team representation sat above the BBL.

"I obviously dreamt of this when I go to bed, but I never imagined this", the opener told Channel Ten. "I don't think there needs to be a policy or anything like that, if the Australian selectors release a player to go and play well they're just taking every situation as they go". When do you play the Test matches, do you still play ODIs, do you play any global T20 games.

Hurricanes captain George Bailey, who will welcome Short back to the top of the order but is yet to decide whether he will be accompanied by Tim Paine or Matthew Wade, was grateful for the compromise.

"You just get that luck".

Weatherald was ably supported by captain Travis Head with an unbeaten 44 off 29 balls, but rather than focus on his performance the Australia worldwide hailed the Strikers' unity as they claimed the title in their first final.

Both teams are likely to play off in the semi-final in a few weeks with the victor of that match to play Frenchville, which has cemented top spot.
