'Padmavati' row: CBFC decides to proceed with certification after title change

'Padmavati' row: CBFC decides to proceed with certification after title change

"Special panel consisted of Arvind Singh from Udaipur, Dr.Chandramani Singh & Prof K.K. Singh of Jaipur University".

Even as the Censor Board has made a decision to give UA certificate to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati, albeit with changes, the Rajput Karni Sena, which was opposing the film's release, is not pleased.

In the midst of a raging controversy over his film Padmavati, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali appeared before a Parliamentary committee and maintained that the row over the yet-to-be-released movie was just based on rumours, strongly rejecting charges that he had distorted historical facts about the 16th-century Rajput queen.

Joshi reportedly said that filmmakers had agreed to the CBFC's suggestions, but no official comment was issued by Viacom18.

The board asked that the name of the film be changed to "Padmavat", to reflect that the source material was an epic poem of the same name and not from actual historical events, Joshi said. The story revolves around the queen Padmini of Chittore, her husband Rawal Ratan Singh and the adversities they face while fighting the tyrant ruler Alauddin Khilji.

"The film was approached with a balanced view keeping in mind both the filmmakers and the society", the statement added.

One of the most controversial films in the recent times much before its release in theatres is none other than "Padmavati", directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

He said a special panel was set up "considering the complexities and concerns around the film" and "to add perspective to the final decision of the CBFC official committee".

Historians are divided over whether Padmavati ever existed.

Vishvaraj also mentioned that he earlier wrote a letter on December 22 stating, "The fact remains that my questions are relevant for every member of the proposed committee and without resolving the same, the committee's findings shall remain a mirage".

"We had given a whole list of objections regarding the movie", Ajit Singh, president of Rajput Karni Sena, told Reuters.

Our people will be outside cinema halls, and each hall that shows the film will be vandalised, the Rajput Karni Sena has said.

A member of the organisation, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, while talking to media persons, said, "They are playing with our emotions".
