Nine killed in massive fire in Delhi warehouse

Police however contradicted with the death toll, saying only four people were killed in the fire that broke out in Bawana's F block. Ten women and seven men were killed while a man and woman were injured in a massive blaze at a firecracker storage unit in outer Delhi's Bawana industrial area yesterday evening.

The Delhi Fire Services said it received a call about the fire at the factory around 6.20 pm. "Keeping a close watch on rescue operations (sic)".

Union Minister Harsh Vardhan, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manoj Tiwari and Leader of Opposition in Delhi assembly Vijender Gupta and North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Preety Agarwal also reached the spot.

Two people suffered injuries and were taken to hospital, he added.

Officials said the building, which didn't have the mandatory no-objection certificate on fire safety, was sealed after the blaze.
