IED Returns To Kashmir, Blast In Sopore Kills 4 Cops

Sopore: Marking the return of IED attacks in Kashmir after three years, a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) blast killed four policemen in Sopore town amid a shutdown on the 25th anniversary of the Sopore massacre. The deceased have been identified as ASI Irshad Ahmad from Doda, Muhammad Amin from Kupwara and Ghulam Nabi from Sopore.

The militants detonated the remote-controlled IED when the policemen reached the scene while doing their rounds, the police officials said.

According to reports, the bomb was planted by militants near a shop amid a strike called by separatists.

They said some noises came from the Gole Market side and as soon as policemen on duty approached the area, there was a massive blast that ripped apart bodies of four policemen. Congress Chief GA Mir condemned the killing and said the incident had exposed the tall claims of the Mehbooba government about the Kashmir situation being normal. "My deepest condolences to their families", she tweeted.

Sopore town was shut today in remembrance of over 50 civilians killed in alleged security forces firing on this day in 1993. A mere statement does not mean that only they have done it.

Constable Parvaiz Ahmad is survived by aged father, wife, minor son Mohammad Noman about 03 years old, unmarried sister and three brothers. "The Shaheed Afzal Guru squad carried out the attack", he said.

Last week, four Indian soldiers were killed in an attack by armed attackers who stormed a paramilitary camp outside Srinagar.
