Clinton, Cabello and Monae provide Grammys political moments

"Praying" was the lead single off Kesha 's third album "Rainbow", a lush work with mournful piano and strings, and lyrical explorations about her struggles with self-image. Kesha, 30, then took the stage and was joined by Camila Cabello, Cyndi Lauper, Andra Day and Julia Michaels along with a larger chorus.

Kesha was also nominated for two awards on the night, in the categories of Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Kesha, 30, explained what the song meant to her in an essay on Lenny Letter, the website run by actress Lena Dunham.

What followed was an incredibly moving, exceedingly powerful, and above all else fearless performance of her redemption ballad 'Praying,' firmly announcing her return to the industry after a long, ugly, and protracted legal battle with her alleged abuser Dr Luke.

James Corden, the show's host, said after Kesha's performance that "music often resonates more than spoken word ever could". The singer also walked the red carpet with a white rose pinned to her dress in support of the #MeToo movement and Time's Up initiative prior to taking the stage.

After years of battling her former producer and alleged abuser Dr. Luke, she finally got the chance to stare this music industry in the eye and remind them, through sheer force of will and persistence, what their silence took from her and what she had to fight to gain back.

Ahead of the Grammys, Kesha shared how singing this song will be a healing moment for her and how she hopes it helps bring peace to other survivors of abuse and sexual assault.

Dr. Luke denied all allegations and countersued her for defamation.

It was one of several political moments during Sunday's broadcast of the 60th annual Grammy Awards from New York City. She dropped her sexual abuse case against him in Los Angeles in August 2016.

"I just want to say that i needed this song in a very real way", she continued in a second tweet.

"This song is about me finding peace in the fact that I can't control everything - because trying to control everyone was killing me", she wrote previous year.
