It appears that Marvel has brought in Schaeffer to put together a script and is waiting to see what she produces before deciding whether to move forward. Well, it seems that the big bosses of Marvel have heard are pleas, and are now in talks to give Black Widow her own movie. I think there's a lot of opportunity to mine that story line. Age of Ultron, arguably one of the MCU's most frustrating offerings in terms of cohesive storylines, delivered a sliver of backstory for the character, but it was largely undermined by the aforementioned cringe factor of a romantic subplot that nobody asked for or really embraced since. At a time when we're discussing the patriarchy and pay gap that exists in Hollywood nearly every other day, a character like Black Widow played by an actor such as Johansson being put on the back burner fees particularly egregious, in some ways. Despite critical review of her past Marvel performances, Johansson has a history of popular films.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2017.

The news comes two years after Feige said that the company is "creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow".
