7 more flu-related deaths reported in Dallas County

A total of 289 more people were hospitalized because of the flu last month in Colorado, according to the department.

The Douglas County Health Department said child care centers across the metro are vulnerable places during the flu season because the virus hits the young and old particularly hard.

The CDC rates Oklahoma in "Red" for high activity.

The number of flu deaths in Collin and Dallas counties combined reached 86 this week.

The collaborative includes the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and the Cleveland Department of Public Health.

Around the Tulsa area, hospital emergency rooms are reporting high traffic and more flu cases.

Across Oklahoma, there have been 23 deaths and 1022 hospitalizations due to flu. Nearly 36,000 people die every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. OCCHD reminds the public that it takes about two weeks to be fully protected from the vaccine, so don't wait to receive the flu shot. "You can also prevent the flu by washing your hands, covering your cough, and staying home when sick".

"Unfortunately, as in years past, we are seeing increasing flu activity and the heartbreaking consequences it can have", said Indiana State Health Commissioner Kris Box, M.D., FACOG. The cost is $10 and up, depending on insurance.

So far all flu-related deaths in North and Northeast Texas have been adults.
