Trumps light national Christmas tree for first time

Inside, glistening wintry branches line both sides of an East Wing hallway that leads guests to a tree decorated with the Trump family's official Christmas ornament, a gold-toned bauble featuring the presidential coat of arms surrounded by a wreath of holly.

Christmas is finally taking over the White House lawn this week as the President and First Lady took part in lighting the National Christmas tree. The dancers echoed the first themed Christmas at the White House, Jacqueline Kennedy's "Nutcracker Suite" in 1961. He presided over the annual lighting of the National Christmas Tree during which he wished his countrymen and people across the world a very merry Christmas. For example, he routinely makes the point that we should use the more traditional greeting of "Merry Christmas" over the politically correct "Happy Holidays".

Former US President Ulysses S. Grant signed legislation marking Christmas as a national holiday.

The record for the number of trees in the White House was held for many years by the Eisenhower administration when 26 trees filled every floor of the house.

"With Trump as your president, we are going to be celebrating "merry Christmas" again and it's going to be done with a big, attractive tax cut", he continued.

The White House said she personally chose every detail of the decor.

The decorations continue a tradition that dates back decades.

Meanwhile, inside the White House, there's a Kentucky connection to the White House Chrismas Decorations.

This is the 95th ceremony of ignition of lights, writes The Washington Post.

"We pray that our country will be a place where every child knows a home filled with love, a community rich with hope, and a nation blessed with faith", said President Trump.
