Social justice activist Erica Garner dies following heart attack

Social justice activist Erica Garner dies following heart attack

Garner died almost one week after suffering a massive heart attack on Christmas Eve.

Black Lives Matter campaigner Erica Garner, who came to prominence after her father, Eric, was killed in a police chokehold, has died at the age of 27.

"She was a contender, she was a warrior and she lost the fight", Snipes said of her girl. "This city will miss her unshakable sense of justice and passion for humanity", de Blasio tweeted.

She is said to be remembered as a "human: mother, sister, aunt". The elder Garner, 43, died after being put in a chokehold by NY police officer Daniel Pantaleo.

His last words, as he was being pinned to the ground, were, "I can't breathe".

Erica Garner turned into an unmistakable dissident in the wake of her dad's passing, pushing for political change and social equity comprehensively lined up with the Black Lives Matter development.

Garner endorsed Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders for president, and she campaigned for the senator from Vermont.

Hearts are heavy today as reports poured in that activist and eldest daughter of slain Staten Island man Eric Garner, Erica Garner, has died.

Garner was placed into a medically induced coma on December 23 after suffering a heart attack brought on by asthma.

"I feel like an agent for individuals all through this entire country since I'm doing this". "She was a fierce protector of her friends and family. A truth teller. As genuine and authentic of a soul you'll ever encounter", activist Shaun King wrote on Twitter.

"My thoughts are with Erica Garner, her family and friends in hoping that she has a full recovery and rejoins the struggle for justice as soon as possible. We're less because of this loss". All the same, the family was praying for miracles and asked the public to do the same. She was particularly critical of de Blasio, noting that he defended the NYPD's decision not to release Pantaleo's disciplinary records after her father's death. "She left on her own terms". Her father didn't deserve this. This for being Black in America.

Rev. Al Sharpton made a similar point in lauding Erica Garner as a "warrior to the end" in her fight for justice on Saturday morning at a meeting with the National Action Network.

Garner gave birth to her second child in August, naming him after her late father. "Her heart was attacked by a system that would choke her dad and not hold accountable those that did it".
