Google is adding Google Assistant to tablets and older Android phones

Google Assistant, the search giant's voice-assistant powered by Artificial intelligence and machine learning, is now rolling out to Android tablets and Android phones running Android Lollipop 5.0 versions.

Today Google has announced that it will stretch back availability for even older Android handsets, as well as tablet devices running the Android operating system as well. Other countries receiving the update include Italy, Japan, Germany, Brazil and Korea. It was initially made available for smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat only, but soon Google expanded the availability to devices running Marshmallow as well. Older phone owners were stuck with upgrading or going Assistant-less.

With Android Oreo Go, Google has implemented key performance and storage improvements so that low-end devices can do more with less. With the Google Assistant, the user can make phone calls, send text messages, set reminders, set alarm, and many more. What will you ask your Assistant first?

Which tablets will get Google Assistant?

Now with the rollout of Assistant for Lollipop as well, Google Assistant is available on almost 80 percent of all active Android devices around the world.

The update is starting to reach phones with English language settings in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, India and Singapore. Tablet users are said to represent 53.1% of users. It will be coming to more languages next year.

The Google Play Store will also highlight the lighter version of apps, these will show as "optimised for your device" when browsing the store on a budget phone.
