Google Chrome to start blocking ads in February

We spilled words on the subject again in June when the search giant confirmed its plans to block ads on pages that didn't conform to guidelines for unobtrusive advertising.

Google joined the Coalition for Better Ads, a group that offers specific standards for how the industry should improve ads for consumers - full-page ad interstitials, ads that unexpectedly play sound, and flashing ads are all banned. That has changed today, though, with an official announcement revealing that Google Chrome's built-in ad blocking will launch on February 15, 2018. Chrome 64 is now scheduled to arrive on January 23 and Chrome 65 is slated to launch on March 6, suggesting Google will be turning on its browser's ad-blocker remotely, and possibly gradually for select users. When those annoying ads will be eliminated, the users will never have to install an ad blocker, which stops all ads from loading, thereby, crippling the ad businesses.

As first reported by VentureBeat, Google revealed that native ad-blocking will go live on Chrome starting february 15 in a blog post for developers.

The new Chrome ad blocker will be based on standards established by the Coalition for Better Ads (CFBA), and will be the default service for all Chrome browser users. However, for websites that have just one of such intrusive ads, it will be blocking all the ads on that site even if all its other ads meet the standard. According to the company, indiscriminate ad blockers impact publishers' bottom lines and threaten the sustainability of the web ecosystem. Yes, Google has finally added an ad-blocker in Chrome that will be cracking down on annoying ads that ruin our web experience. By doing this, Google will be able to root out "bad or aggressive" ads thanks to the guidelines that are put in place by the Coalition. Google is in the business of serving ads, after all, so it only makes sense that they want to protect their lucrative revenue stream.
