Facebook Releases Snooze Button To Mute Your Obnoxious Friends And Family

Facebook Releases Snooze Button To Mute Your Obnoxious Friends And Family

Users can mute people, pages or groups.

With Snooze, you can clear your News Feed of friends you still like, but who now won't stop posting about their recent exotic vacation, wedding, or new cat.

Facebook's move is based on a bunch of internal and external research on how social media affects moods. It'll also let you control who can see your past posts, presumably so people won't be able to see old photos and status updates with you and your ex.

Facebook users could already unfollow someone, hiding their posts entirely without unfriending, but the Snooze feature only mutes the posts for 30 days. Just before the quiet period is set to expire, Facebook will send an alert so you can be prepared or renew the Snooze for an additional length of time.

Muraleedharan wrote "it turned out, you're not alone" if you think you are inundated with content you don't want to see.

The idea is to give users more control over their news feed.

Facebook is slowly rolling out the Snooze feature and it may take a few days for people to see it in their news feeds.

The blog authors said Facebook employs social psychologists, social scientists and sociologists, "and we collaborate with top scholars to better understand well-being and work to make Facebook a place that contributes in a positive way". But Facebook's elimination of the Ticker tool earlier this week anxious some users that the company was trying to restrict this control. In the options drop-down menu you see appear on each post in your News Feed, you should see a new option for Snooze.

"At the end of the day, we're committed to bringing people together and supporting well-being through meaningful interactions on Facebook".
