Civilization VI lands on iPad

Civilization VI lands on iPad

Civilization is one of the longest-standing video game franchises, and has seen tremendous success on PC over the years.

"You have to think on your feet in Civilization VI in ways you've never had to before", read TIME's Civilization VI review past year.

While previous Aspyr games for iOS have been playable on iPhone or iPad, Civilization VI will only be available for the iPad. Afterward, Civilization VI players have to pay for the full game. From now until January 4, Civilization VI for iPad is on sale for $30. For anyone looking to try it out, the first 60 turns are free-to-play, and the game's full download size comes in at around 3GB. The Civilization series has a history on mobile devices.

As noted by Kotaku, the complete version of "Civilization VI" has been made available on the iPad platform. The game itself will only run on iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, and the iPad Pros at this time. It appears like the game developers have chose to push the title for sale on iPad devices as well.

The pricing is essentially unprecedented, even for a mobile port of a full PC/console game. Since the iPad version feature lesser number of features, it would make sense for the game developers to price it at a lower point. To make a comparison, 2K Games charged players $19.99 when the XCOM: Enemy Unknown was launched for iOS in 2013. The rest is the same and now you can touch the options instead of using a mouse to guide them on screen.

Civilization VI offers new ways to engage with your world. More than that, Civilization VI on iPad has multiplayer (but it's LAN only right now). The only difference between playing on PC and playing on an iPad is that the players have lesser flexibility regarding user controls.

"We hope to support DLC and expansions in the future but can not confirm timing or availability at this time", Aspyr said regarding the expansion. The iOS version does not include any expansion content.
