Cadets lay wreaths at Bay Pines National Cemetery

"The mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember our fallen veterans, to honor those who are now serving, to honor those who have served, and to teach younger generations about their sacrifices", said Randy Lewer, the location coordinator for the Florida National Cemetery and Imagery Analyst with U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. Chapter members participated in the ceremony to remember fallen veterans' lives and to honor all who serve in America's armed forces.

More than 100 volunteers trekked to Forest Dale Cemetery and took part in a nationwide effort Saturday to honor America's veterans in the holiday season.

Saturday's event was so successful that Spitalere and Dobrosielski are already planning next year's effort, set for December 15, 2018. Four years later, he participated in the landing at Normandy and then became the Military Governor of Cherbourg and Paris, France.

Bennett Motor Express LLC and John Christner Trucking Inc. donated their services to transport sponsored wreaths to the park all the way from Maine. "I'm very proud to say this year, our donations have increased and we placed over 27,000 wreaths on veterans' graves". "As a veteran myself, I think it's up to us to lead the charge and support this type of work as best as we can". Funding for the wreaths is provided by corporate and individual donations.

Over one million wreaths were laid on graves across the United States on Saturday as part of the "Wreaths across America" program. From there, it became a national event held at over one thousand different locations.

After a flawless rendition of "Taps" following the 21-gun salute, and the readings of the names, members of the crowd fanned out to place the remaining wreaths on the graves of veterans resting in the cemetery grounds.

"This is a time that families get together", he said, "and this is a time that we need to remember those who can't be here".

He remembered a boyhood trip to Arlington National Cemetery and made a decision to donate 5,000 wreaths to be placed on the headstones.
