After Snow, Cold Ahead For Rest Of Year

Despite unlimited sunshine yesterday, highs only ranged from the middle teens in Litchfield County to the middle 20s along the I-95 corridor.

In Ocean City, expect a low of 13 degrees Wednesday night, then a high of 27 degrees and low of 13 Thursday, according to the weather service. Highs Saturday will range from 15-25 across the state and lows Saturday night will range from 5-15.

Don't forget the check on the latest local gas prices, which are also listed on this page.

Stephen Latimer, meteorologist for the National Weather Service office in Huntsville, said wind chills will add to the bitterness of the temperatures. A wind advisory was in effect from 1 p.m.to 7 p.m. Monday, given the potential for gusts of up to 50 miles per hour and potential for downed tree limbs and branches. The overall chance of precipitation is estimated at 30 percent. We are under another Wind Chill Advisory until noon today.

Up to 2″ Of Snow Friday, Saturday
After Snow, Cold Ahead For Rest Of Year

A cold air mass over parts of the Midwest and Northern Plains will begin expanding to the southeast as arctic high pressure builds in across parts of the mid-Atlantic, resulting in a cold end to the work week. On the Virginia Shore, the highest temperature for the week will be 38 degrees Saturday and lowest 18 degrees Sunday night, per the weather service.

The high on Tuesday will be in the mid 20s, but will fall into the single digits overnight and peak in the low 20s and teens during the day, the weather service forecast shows.

"People need to keep that in mind if they have New Year's Eve plans", Latimer said.

Regardless of any Saturday snow, the cold air will remain firmly locked in place through the New Year, so First Night celebrations on Sunday night look very cold with temps in the single digits. Snow showers will greet the morning, though little to no snow accumulation is expected throughout the day.
