Teenage fugitive sought in death of grandmother found buried in backyard

Teenage fugitive sought in death of grandmother found buried in backyard

Kristina French, 53, along with her 15-year-old grandson Logan Mott, were reported missing this week, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office deputies, after the boy didn't show up to school and the woman missed work.

But returning across the bridge requires a Border Patrol inspection, and Bowker said that ended with agents realizing Mott, 15, was wanted on auto theft charges and was a person of interest in the apparent death of his grandmother, Kristina French, 53.

When they got home, the front door to their home was open and the house was ransacked, Campbell-Mott said.

At 5 p.m. Friday, high-ranking police and members of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office gathered at Neptune City Hall to reveal what they knew.

Officials say Mott is "considered armed and dangerous" and is likely driving the vehicle the pair was last seen in - a 2015 silver Dodge Dart with Florida tag DLL T42.

In a statement released to ABC News and other outlets after Logan's capture, his mother remained as optimistic as might be thought possible.

A Florida teen wanted in connection with the death of his grandmother was detained as he attempted to enter Canada.

Jackson Sheriff's Office Director Ron Ledvay said they are searching for Logan to question him about his grandmother's death.

Mott was being watched by French at her Neptune Beach home while his father, a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office corrections officer, was on vacation.

"We are relieved he is safe and in custody and we just ask for everyone to give us time to sort out what happened".

He is now being held by the Buffalo Police Department on the auto theft warrant. "No matter what, Logan is our child and we love him and are standing by him to help in any way".

She said a Jacksonville detective will fly to meet Logan on Saturday.

His mother, Carrie Campbell-Mott told First Coast News her son has had some trouble adjusting since moving onto high school.

Campbell-Mott said she last spoke to Logan on Sunday and that he seemed to be in a good mood. Authorities noted that since guns were taken from the home, they considered the teen armed and unsafe.
