'StarCraft II' is Going Free-to-Play

The silence in Anaheim was interrupted earlier today as BlizzCon 2017 attendees heard the latest news from the publisher: StarCraft II is going free-to-play on November 14. This includes the campaign for the initial game in the Starcraft 2-saga, Wings of Liberty, as well as the campaign for its sequel Heart of the Swarm if players already own a copy of Wings of Liberty. The co-op mode, Co-Op Commanders, will also be playable for free. Kerrigan, Raynor, and Artanis will be completely free, and all other commanders will be free to use up to Level 5. Later this month a major patch will be released for SCII that unlocks more content for free users that was previously only available to owners of Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm or Legacy of the Void. "It was very important to us that this be accomplished in a way that feels good to our current player base and also attractive to new players or lapsed players who haven't played since Wings of Liberty". Blizzard now feels that the time is right to make the game free-to-play. Player's can also look forward to new Co-op mission additions with the Part and Parcel mission and leaderboards which list scores for all co-op games.

With StarCraft II to become a free-to-play game soon, could the five-year-old Diablo III be the next on the list for Blizzard? It's a fantastic game, just be ready for some stiff competition if you decide to get serious about multiplayer. The multiplayer mode will enable gamers from around the world to compete against each other.

Gamers will be able to play the entire campaign of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty for free once November 14 hits. If you purchased any of the three campaigns as of October 31, you'll get an exclusive Ghost skin. In order to "preserve the quality and integrity of the ranked experience", to permanently unlock this feature, you'll need to earn 10 First Wins of the Day in either Unranked or Versus A.I. play.
