Rhode Island unemployment rate remains at 4.2 percent

The last time the rate was 4.7 percent was in November 2007.

Meanwhile, the statewide unemployment rate hit a record low during October.

In the Lincoln metro area, which includes Lancaster and Seward counties, the unemployment rate of 2.1 percent was down from 2.3 percent in September and 2.8 percent from October 2016.

The figures are seasonally adjusted. Kansas Labor Secretary Lana Gordon says in a release from the department, that almost 3,400 additional Kansans became employed in October. In addition to Nebraska, 10 other states saw their unemployment rates drop during the month.

Nationally, the unemployment rate dropped slightly to 3.9 percent in September from 4.1 percent the month prior. Private sector jobs decreased by 1,700 from the previous month.

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate was down one-tenth of a percentage point in October to 4.7 percent, its lowest rate in almost 10 years.

Professional and business services had shown the most growth this year, adding more than 4,000 jobs. Those gains exceeded losses in the information sector. Government employment declined by 500 jobs, the DLIR said.
