Police scour for details leading up to Utah student slaying

Police scour for details leading up to Utah student slaying

On Tuesday morning, the Salt Lake Tribune reported that authorities identified the victim as CheinWei Guo, an worldwide student from China.

According to police, Kathleen Boutain arrived on the University of Utah campus Monday night claiming her husband had assaulted her as they camped in Red Butte Canyon, also in the foothills east of campus.

A Utah nurse who was arrested for refusing to let a police officer draw blood from an unconscious patient is settling with Salt Lake City and the university that runs the hospital for $500,000.

He was wanted in the death of ChenWei Guo, a student from China who was found shot to death in his auto in a rugged canyon near the University of Utah campus.

The documents also say Boutain acknowledged taking three guns from a home in Colorado.

Guo, one of thousands of global students at the University of Utah, came to the U.S.in 2012 and dreamed of owning his own consulting company. Brophy said police believe Austin Boutain had killed the driver of a auto and fled the scene.

The Deseret News reports that the university sent an alert at 9 pm to students and staff to take shelter and remain inside campus.

After discovering the pickup truck he was driving was stolen, Utah police asked for a welfare check on the owner.

Boutain is also wanted for questioning in the death of a 63-year-old man in Golden, Colorado.

A lockdown at the university, which has about 32,800 students, ended early Tuesday and school officials canceled classes for the day. He enjoyed skydiving, skiing and horseback riding, according to his biography on the school's International Student and Scholar Services website.
