India expresses outrage over Hafiz Saeed's imminent release

India expresses outrage over Hafiz Saeed's imminent release

He said the government's lawyers had repeatedly argued in court that Saeed was a threat to public safety and that his release could lead to global penalties for Pakistan for not moving against terrorism financing.

India lashed out at Pakistan over the release of the terrorist.

Mumbai terror attack Hafiz Saeed received a hero's welcome after being released from house arrest following orders of a Pakistani court.

"It astounds me that we keep giving Pakistan money - military and foreign aid - and they're a haven for terror groups from the Taliban to LeT".

The MEA Spokesperson informed that external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will be representing India at the SCO summit in Sochi on 30th November and 1st December.

Saeed and his four aides - Abdullah Ubaid, Malik Zafar Iqbal Shahbaz, Abdur Rehman and Qazi Kashif Hussain - had been under house arrest since January under the Anti-Terrorism Act. He said after his release Saeed thanked to his supporters gathered outside his house.

On Wednesday, a court in Lahore rejected a request from the provincial government of Punjab for a 60-day extension to Saeed's detention. I fight for the cause of Kashmiris.

Saeed has long campaigned in support of Muslim separatists in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, to which Pakistan also lays claim.

"The US is aware of media reports that Pakistan (court) ordered release of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Hafiz Saeed from house arrest", a State Department spokesperson told PTI when asked about the decision of the Judicial Review Board of Punjab province which refused to extend Saeed's detention.

"It's because of Kashmir that India is after me, but all her efforts have been in vain and Allah has set me free".

Intelligence Bureau officials say that with Saeed walking free, the cadres would be motivated.

The move is likely to anger USA and Indian officials, who have accused Saeed of helping plan the Mumbai attacks in which 10 gunmen rampaged through India's largest city, shooting up two luxury hotels, a Jewish center, and a train station during a siege that lasted several days.

The U.S. has also made several overtures to India for closer ties.

In a 2015 interview, Saeed denied any connection to the Mumbai massacre, telling The Diplomat that "neither Pakistan nor Lashkar-e-Taiba were behind these attacks".

This is extraordinary for someone whose outfit is indubitably responsible for the 2008 terrorist attacks on Mumbai, which killed at least 166 persons.

The LeT chief had been produced before the review board by Pakistan's Punjab government on 21 November.
