'Upset and Hurt': Fallen Soldier's Widow on Trump's Condolence Call

'Upset and Hurt': Fallen Soldier's Widow on Trump's Condolence Call

The pregnant widow of a fallen USA soldier whose combat death led to a political fight between President Donald Trump and a Florida congresswoman says the phone call from the president left her angry and crying.

"The only way he remembered my husband's name, because he told me he had my husband's report in front of him".

Johnson's pregnant widow, Myeshia Johnson, told ABC News that she did not write the post blasting Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., and defending President Trump.

Wilson later told reporters that Johnson's family had taken Trump's comments as an insult.

Myeshia Johnson, who was married to Army Sgt.

Mourners said the fight between Trump and Wilson was never mentioned during the service.

The 51-year-old journalist, who had also mentioned at the beginning of his open letter that he'd also suffered very public criticism from Trump on camera and on Twitter, urged the president to imagine what it was like if Tiffany or Ivanka were in Mrs Johnson's shoes.

Portraits of his three comrades killed in action - Staff Sgt. Bryan C. Black, 35, of Puyallup, Washington; Staff Sgt. Jeremiah W. Johnson, 39, of Springboro, Ohio; and Staff Sgt. Dustin M. Wright, 29, of Lyons, Georgia - joined his on the stage as the pastor, family and Wilson spoke. The issue of condolence calls to the families of fallen soldiers came to the forefront last week, when Trump falsely claimed that his predecessors did less than he to reach out to Gold Star families.

"[I was] very upset and hurt; it made me cry even worse", Myeshia Johnson told "Good Morning America" about her conversation with the president, adding she has "nothing to say" to him. "I was very angry at the tone of his voice and how he said it".

Trump has disputed the congresswoman's claim, which Myeshia Johnson backed up during Monday's interview.

Trump's broadside came a day after the White House defended Chief of Staff John F. Kelly after he mischaracterized Wilson's remarks at a 2015 Federal Bureau of Investigation building dedication and called her an "empty barrel" making noise. Sgt. Johnson and three comrades died October 4 in Africa when militants tied to the Islamic State attacked them.

She says she's gotten no answers from the government about how or where her husband died and says they refused to let her view his body. I know my husband's body from head to toe. He said he was incensed that Wilson revealed details of what he deemed to be a "sacred" conversation. Johnson said everyone in the auto was listening to Trump's call.

When Stephanopoulos asked if she believed she would get the answers to questions surrounding her husband's death, Johnson said: "If I keep pushing for them, I will".
