Google Chrome collaborates with ESET to halt risky malware

Google Chrome collaborates with ESET to halt risky malware

Web surfing can lead users to unsafe sites that download internet malware which is often complex and hard to spot, the companies explain. But in some cases, the changes are so severe that they can make the web unusable-people are redirected to unwanted sites full of ads, and it can be next to impossible to navigate away from these pages. It shows an alert when the browser detects unwanted software and offers a way to remove it. Chrome users have previously been able to use the standalone Chrome Cleanup Tool to remove harmful software.

Chrome already has tools to help people avoid unwanted software. It deletes the software once cleanup is complete.

"Using the internet should always be a smooth and safe experience for everyone", said Malcho, Chief Technology Officer at ESET, in a statement. ESET is best known for offering a range of antivirus and security suite solutions for home and business users.

Google says it worked with security firm ESET to utilize the company's detection engine in Chrome for the new Chrome Cleanup tool. This collaboration means that they can now detect and remove more unwanted software than ever before, allowing a safer and speedier experience for Chrome users. "It only removes software that doesn't comply with our unwanted software policy".

"Sometimes when you download software or other content, it might bundle unwanted software as part of the installation process without you knowing".

Google Chrome 62 is now rolling out to Windows, Linux and Mac computers in the stable channel and as expected, the update comes with a bunch of new features targeting developers as well as changed security behaviors as the search giant continues to push for HTTPS adoption. The updated desktop Chrome also brings a new Ambient Light Sensor API that will allow websites to adapt to any changes in the intensity of light.

Extensions can help make Chrome more useful-like by customizing tab management. These include settings for the user's search engine, homepage, or proxy settings. This appeared on HTTP websites where users had to provide a password or credit card details, but this will be no more thanks to the latest Chrome 62 update.
