Damon, Clooney slam Weinstein

On Monday George Clooney and Matt Damon joined ABC News to discuss their new film, Suburbicon, but the conversation quickly turned to the story dominating Hollywood: The sexual assault and harassment allegations surrounding Harvey Weinstein.

The actors were appearing on the morning talk show to promote their latest film, Suburbicon which arrives in theaters on October 27.

Now Damon is admitting he was aware that Weinstein allegedly sexually harassed Gwyneth Paltrow.

Damon called Weinstein an "a**hole" and a "womanizer" during an interview on "Good Morning America," but said he never saw any questionable behaviors during the time he spent with Weinstein.

"You had to spend about five minutes with [Weinstein] to know that he was a bully. This level of criminal sexual predation was not something I ever thought was going on".

Clooney added that Weinstein would talk to him about women he'd had affairs with, although he didn't necessarily believe the producer because to do so "would be to believe the worst of some actresses who were friends of mine".

"I didn't really think that they were going to have affairs with Harvey, quite honestly", Clooney said.

The Oscar-winning director had voiced his concern about Hollywood slipping into a "witch-hunt" culture in the aftermath of Harvey Weinstein scandal where multiple women accused the producer of sexual misconduct. There have been many stories written about the accusations against Weinstein, with more than one person in Hollywood claiming that everybody knew about the Hollywood mogul's actions for years, but never spoke up. I think we have to get to the point where women feel safe to talk about this, where they feel believed and the men that do this don't feel safe. "That was his legend, that was his whole kind of M.O". Both Damon and Clooney have worked with Weinstein, but now say they didn't know he was an alleged sexual predator. I want to know who did that. But I knew that they had come to whatever, you know, agreement or understanding that they had come to, she handled it.

Matt Damon defended his time working with Harvey Weinstein by echoing what many have recently said.

The fallout of Harvey Weinstein continues to make headlines as more A-listers speak about the character of Weinstein and how the industry has maintained to keep this silenced over the years. "[Moving forward] Let's stop having meetings in hotel rooms - you can have it in the restaurant downstairs". If it were the case that he had overlooked any instances of inappropriate behavior, however, Damon said that he apologizes.

"People who worked for him were, like, "I'm coming to make good movies".
