30-Plus Women Accuse Hollywood Writer of Sexual Harassment

30-Plus Women Accuse Hollywood Writer of Sexual Harassment

Toback's most well-known film told the story of NY mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel and starred Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, but he has also directed stars including Robert Downey Jr and Sienna Miller.

More than 30 women have accused longtime Hollywood writer and director James Toback of sexual harassment, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.

The article reported that according to the 38 women: "In a hotel room, a movie trailer, a public park, meetings framed as interviews or auditions quickly turned sexual".

Out of the 38, as many as 31 of the women spoke about it, and detailed various incidents in which Toback allegedly made lewd suggestions, steered conversations into sexually explicit territory, and rubbed against them until he ejaculated into his trousers or on their bodies.

To that end, Toback would use extremely graphic sexual language "under the guise of describing a role or film", after which he would allegedly engage in masturbation in front of the women. He also directed pictures starring Robert Downey Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar after the report.

The indie rock band Veruca Salt used the hashtag to call out Toback on October 16.

The director's reputation was so well known among some Hollywood women that one accuser said "getting Toback-ed" became code for any sexual abuse "by a creepy writer-director".

"The way he presented it, it was like, 'This is how things are done.' I felt like a prostitute, an utter disappointment to myself, my parents, my friends".

Then in 2008, he allegedly tried to rub his crotch against the leg of actress Adrienne LaValley.

"He always wanted me to read for him in a hotel or come back to his apartment, like, 'How serious are you about your craft?'" Rinaldi said.

Toback, 72, has denied the allegations, saying he never met any of the women who have accused him, or if he did, it "was for five minutes and (I) have no recollection", according to the Times.

When the actress jumped away from him, he ejaculated in his trousers.

"He told me he'd love nothing more than to masturbate while looking into my eyes", Post said.

The women Toback targeted ranged from aspiring actresses, women in the industry to people on the streets. She met Toback in 1987 while attending Barnard College. When asked, "paralyzed", if she was trying to stimulate herself sexually, director replied that "Of course" and young girl ran away.

Kamin jumped up, grabbed her clothes and ran, she said.

Toback's alleged sexual behavior was far from secret.
