Temple Community Shaken Up By Student's Murder

An undated photo provided by the Philadelphia Police Department shows Joshua Hupperterz of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia police said he had confessed to "elements of the crime".

A man has been charged with the murder of a missing Temple University student whose body was found over the weekend in northeastern Pennsylvania. He has been charged with murder and abuse of a corpse.

Josh Hupperterz, a former Temple University student was charged Sunday morning in the murder of Jenna Burleigh. Documents show Hupperterz as living in Hawley, Wayne County, at the time of both incidents.

Burleigh, an inhabitant of the Philadelphia suburb of Harleysville, exchanged to Temple.

Authorities believe Hupperterz killed Burleigh in Philadelphia, took her body to his mother's home in Jenkintown and then his grandmother's property where she was found.

He later allegedly told police that he was too drunk to remember who she was.

After speaking with Hupperterz's roommate, investigators obtained a search warrant for his apartment, just around the block from Pub Webb, Philadelphia police said. He was accused of breaking into a home in 2013 to steal electronics, credit cards and beer, Philly.com reported.

Temple is offering on-campus counseling 8:30 a.m.to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Tuttleman Counseling Services.

Burleigh's father received the news of her death on Saturday, writing in a Facebook post, "Our Beautiful Angel Jenna is now in Heaven".

Last week was her first week as a Temple student after transferring from a community college. She was majoring in film and media arts, Temple spokesman Ray Betzner said.

"This really strikes home for you, particularly, thinking about the heartache and the grief that those parents must be going through right now", said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross, adding that he also has a 22-year-old daughter.
