Lewis three clear after three rounds at LPGA in Portland

Lewis fired a 3-under 69 Sunday at the Cambia Portland Classic, outlasting In Gee Chun by a shot at 20 under to hold on after holding a three-shot 54-hole lead.

Lewis stated at the start of the week that she would donate her entire prize money from the tournament to the relief fund for victims of the devastating floods in Houston, where her husband Gerrod Chadwell is women's golf coach at the University of Houston.

Lewis led by three shots overnight, and she made the ideal start with birdies at the first two holes before responding to a bogey at the fourth with further gains at six and seven which hoisted her to 20 under par.

Earlier in the week Lewis pledged all of her tournament earnings to Hurricane Harvey relief.

And when KPMG, one of her sponsors, offered to match the donation, suddenly the Houston-based former world No.1 had a whole new support base.

She opened with a 70, but went low in the second round with a 64, which was the best score of the day. "That's more important than any win". Annika Sorenstam had a chance in 2004 for a third straight at Columbia Edgewater, but she finished two shots behind Hee-Won Han.

"I'm excited to kind of get that monkey off my back and know I can do it, that I can hit the shots I need to and hit the putts when I need to", Lewis said. "Everybody talks about it", Lewis said. A shot further back at 13-under through three rounds is In Gee Chun, who shot a 3-under-par 69 on Saturday. She also broke through in Portland after finishing second twice - two strokes behind Suzann Pettersen in 2013 and four shots behind Brooke Henderson previous year.

"I know it's been a while since I won".

Miyazato admitted she got emotional on the final hole of the tournament, and reflected on what she was going to miss the most about playing on the LPGA Tour.

The LPGA Tour now moves to Indianapolis for the Indy Women in Tech Championship ahead of the Evian Championship in France the following week.

"I hit a really good chip", Lewis said.

Lewis enters the final round on Sunday with a three-stroke edge on second-place Moriya Jutanugarn of Thailand, who went 6-under over 18 holes on Saturday.

Lewis has come close to victory any number of times since that 2014 win in Arkansas, achingly close 12 times, to be precise.
