Is Apple removing home button from new iPhone?

The software bar would have to be dragged to the middle of the screen to open the phone, or if in an app, activate the multitasking menu.

When users are inside an app, the similar gesture will initiate the multitasking window.

A new report from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, who has historically been one of the most reliable Apple reporters, reveals at least one possible way the iPhone 8 will make up for the lack of a home button. The upcoming smartphone is anticipated to be a radical change for the company, which will seek to wow users for the 10th anniversary of the device. The launch event will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater located in Apple's campus.

The new iPhones and Apple TV should announce at a September 12 launch event. No button means no more TouchID, but the company's using facial recognition technology to replace the identity verification and purchasing tool - more on that below. The display promises to stretch from edge to edge with only a notch in the top for the earpiece and front-facing sensors.

The iPhone 8 will, of course, not be launching alone; it'll be accompanied by both the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus, and may even also be joined by the Apple Watch Series 3, if some reports are accurate. At the moment, the iPhone 8 will be radically different from its predecessors.

Interestingly, while Apple's existing phones have squared-off corners, the iPhone 8's display reportedly has rounded corners.

Wireless charging is a pretty convenient way to power your phone, especially if you're too lazy (or drunk) to bother plugging your phone in. A new patent from the company describes how it may do this. Considerably, it can only be used by charging pads approved by Apple.

The home button has been a staple in iPhone design since the beginning.

The home screen will show six vertical rows of four apps, for a total of 24 icons on each page.

Of course, this is just rumor at this point, and the final UI for the iPhone 8 may differ from what's stated above in any number of ways. The report also claims that, due to the limited space on the status bar, the information it displays could change on a per-task basis.

I believe it's highly unlikely that the Apple Pencil will come to this year's premium iPhone. Many reports have pegged the iPhone 8's display size at 5.8 inches.

Price remains a big question, with some analysts suggesting it could cost as much as $1,000.
