Vehicle strikes several pedestrians on London road

Vehicle strikes several pedestrians on London road

London Ambulance Service has devoted "a number of resources" to handling the incident.

British police have sealed off the road outside Finsbury Park tube station in north-east London, after reports a van has driven into people in the area.

Scotland Yard said that one person had been arrested in the apparent attack.

Metropolitan Police said officers were called to the scene on Seven Sisters Road at 12:20 a.m. Monday.

"There are a number of casualties being worked on at the scene", London police said.

The Muslim Council says a van has "run over worshippers" leaving the Finsbury Park mosque. This happens during Ramadan, when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and engage in intense prayer and feast at sundown.

Transportation officials said roads were being closed in the area. Many police cars and ambulances responded to the incident.

No other details were available immediately.

Britain has been on high alert following a pair of attacks in recent weeks that claimed the lives of some 30 people.

Early this month, in what police called a terror attack, three men in a van veered into pedestrians on London Bridge, before attacking people with knives in the nearby Borough Market. The attackers were killed by police.
