Relay For Life celebrates life

When cancer survivors and their caregivers line up for the Survivors' Lap at Relay for Life, it's hard not to be overcome by emotion, standing on the sidelines, clapping for those who have battled this disease and won.

For six hours on Friday night, people of all ages walked around McLeod Athletic Park, or, on the artifical turf, they danced, or kicked soccer balls, or stood in groups and mingled, during the Langley Relay For Life, to raise funds and awareness in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life movement is a fundraising event meant to fight every cancer in every community. Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide past year.

Enthusiasm reached a fevered pitch on the Brewster High School campus Saturday evening when Putnam's newest Relay for Life, a fundraiser that benefits the American Cancer Society, stepped off on the school's track.

In total about 800 registered participants took part in the event this year, they added. "Another one of our awesome volunteers, Tina Aulabaugh of Brewster, a year ago organized a team and took part in the Patterson Relay".

This year, however, organizers said that the decision was made to hold the event in the downtown area to make it easier for people with mobile scooters to access the activities. For more information visit relayforlife.org/GoshenNY or call Kris Revelle at 234-8853.
