Bus carrying 26 kids on DC field trip overturns on I-95

Philadelphia police officers who were also taking buses to Washington for a Police Officers Memorial event spotted the crash and stopped to help.

The child was flown to Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in New Castle, Delaware, and the adult was taken to Shock Trauma.

At least 25 people were injured following an accident involving an overturned charter bus on southbound I-95 in Harford County.

Others were transported to area hospitals by ambulance.

Maryland State Police said 26 children, three chaperones and one driver were aboard the bus.

The crash took place around 9:30 a.m., closing all lanes of I-95 in both directions, the Maryland Transportation Authority said.

A bus carrying Philadelphia schoolchildren was hit by a auto and overturned on an interstate highway in Maryland on Monday, injuring 30 people and backing up traffic for miles, authorities said.

Troopers said the driver of the passenger vehicle is from Maryland, and he refused medical treatment at the scene.

One child was flown to Nemours duPont Hospital in DE and a woman was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma center in Baltimore. There's damage to the hill and a stretch of guardrail on the right side of the highway, where the bus rested on the guardrail.

The bus was operated by charter company Werner Coach, according to a company spokesman.

The Maryland Transportation Department said on Twitter that the accident shut down much of Interstate 95 for hours, causing a six-mile traffic backup in the southbound lanes.

At least two victims suffered injuries that required them to be flown to the hospital. He says several people are injured, but he did not know how many people or the extent of their injuries.
